Traction light and left side drags

Hello not new to forums I all so belong to a boat forum and get a lot of info off that site and even some great pictures. I am hoping to get some answers on my Jeep, When I first start it up the traction light comes on and when I take off the left side seems to drag the lights flash along with the abs light. In the first 1/4 mile lights go off, now the lights stay on all the time and only after I start it up does it drag. I got a price to fix it and the guy says it is both rear bearings and a brake job, not sure this guy is going in the right direction any help would be nice. The jeep is driven a older couple and no mud bogs or road hard, 117.000 miles thanks in advance. Jim

when it does drag it is only about 3 feet and only after it is started.

A question or two:

Do you use your parking brake? (If so, try NOT using it a few times and see if you have the same issue.)

Have "YOU" pulled the rear tire and inspected your brakes? (If not sure what you are looking at, take pictures and post here.)

Is your steering wheel properly centered? (this one can cause all kinds of issues on a JK)

Have you had your CODES checked? If not, do it and post the codes. (This can be done for free by most good auto part stores.)

Make sure you clean the area around your rear wheel speed sensors and check for damaged wires. (A malfunctioning sensor could cause the system to think a tire is spinning and apply the brakes to stop it.)

well i have never used the E brake , wheel is center , the code that comes up is right rear abs, and the brakes are good.

 

The place I took it too says it is the rear bearings on both sides, I am not thinking it is the bearings,and new sensors.

 

Well, I think I am all out of parts it "can" be then.

Yes...it is called the Wheel Speed Sensor. Some will refer to it as the ABS sensor as that is its purpose.

I still don't know what code you are throwing but I am going to guess it is telling you your sensor is bad or the wire/connector is damaged. They are cheap.

 

Well this shop wants 900 for the job, and my gut says they are missing the problem, first quote was one wheel bearing then two and a brake job, so this is why i am reserching with the forum. Thanks for the help Jim

 

Jim, I had the same issue. It was the wheel speed sensor or ABS sensor and I paid about 250 dollars to have it replaced at the dealership, then researched it and it was a 10 dollar part and about 15 minutes worth of work. You can watch how to replace on youtube.

 

mine would do the same thing its was the wheel speed sensor, on right rear. it would feel like the brake was hanging up.
I put new calipers on front end changed out both front wheel bearings, still did it, with the speed sensor it tries to throw
the posi trac in gear, cause it to drag for a bit,,

 

Never saw this thread. But then I looked at the dates posted.
OPs last post Dec. 10, 2016. And it appears he either found a cure for his issue. And didn't post here. Or never found a resolution. The next post. Today. We'll over a year.

Don't mean to create an issue here. But how many people sign up here for an issue or a problem they are having with their rigs. Get, or don't get, an answer or how fix their issue. And we never see them again.

I have on problem AT ALL giving out, for the lack of a better term. Free advice. I am the first one to help some one cross the street. If you get my drift. But at least appreciate the effort I, in the case, we made. I'm not looking for a pat on the back.
