Lift kit questions (do I change my drive shafts?)

I'm still choosing a lift to pick I have strongly decided to NOT go with rough country . I have picked a 4inch Zone lift with shocks springs and a track bar also gunna install a steering stabilizer.

My question is do I need to replace the drive shafts while installing this 4 inch lift? I have done some research and some people say if I change the rear I will be alright.

Get back to me and let me know if I have to change the front and rear or just the rear. I'm probably going to go with Rough Country for the drive shafts and steering stabilizer because they are cheap, but I don't like the brand because they don't offer good warranties.

 

I know a person who is swapping out their Zone for Rock Crawler Lift on their 2012 JKU, because they felt it was inferior. I did install a 3 in zone lift on a friends Dodge 2500. I thought it was well built.

You could do the whole lift without replacing the drive shafts. The front shaft is longer and therefore is affected less by lifting. Your rear drive shaft will wear out faster if you plan on taking it wheeling offroad, but if money is tight you can order a rear shaft later.

Call Tom woods Drive shafts. I paid $260 for a double Cardan drive shaft +10 for shipping and $30 for new Ujoints and straps. My CJ drive shafts were $200 each.

As far as warranty, BDS has a lifetime no questions asked warranty on their lifts. I think that is probably the best warranty on the market.

 

Thanks very much for information, and recommendation. I will definitely call them down the line. Also I will check out BDS. I was going to go with a rock krawler lift setup but it's very expensive which is why I have chosen Zone. It's cheap but seems to be good quality. My next question is do I need adjustable control arms or anything else to go 4 inches!?

 

You get what you pay for with lifts. My best thoughts are to get the budget lift of a good name like teraflex, rock crawler, BDS, metal cloak, and more with teraflex being my favorite, and then add to it as you can. Adjustable control arms etc. BDS ha a great medium cost lift with shocks springs and adjustable control arms for $1300+/- all you need then is an adjustable track bar. The longer arms will help adjust the drive angles as close to stock as possible giving you a much better ride on and off the road. There are many threads about lifts here so explore a little.

 

You should check with jeep dealers there kits come with drive shafts if needed

you are correct to a point but i see it not work i am in auto repair business people come in all the time from dealers for second opinions from me all the time law is a little confussing

 

Well guys I finally did it me and my buddies lifted it 4 inches on zone springs and shocks with RC lower control arms front and back . Next, is upper control arms along and front drive shaft from tom woods . Still have some finishing touches like dual steering stabilizer and rear trac bar bracket other than that its done ! Now I gotta take it to a mechanic so he can alien everything

37s ?! Ehh deff later on but for now I want to keep stock gears.
Plus I love my setup right now it's not that bad.

 

I ran 37s on stock 373 gears on my JKU, it was pretty doggy. On the same 4 inch lift I went up to dana 60s, 40s, and 5.38 gears, and it still feels doggy. I guess it is time for an LS swap, but I have too many projects going to start another right now.

 

Deff will get 37s down the line... but .. Should I be worried that I have a check engine light when I scanned it, code was for low oil pressure. I have no leaks . 93 tune stock engine .

 

Is your oil pressure staying up now. Could be a onetime drop below the alarm setting. Did you run Low on oil at any given time? Reset it and keep an eye on it. Maybe you got off camber and the pump pulled dry for moment.

 

are you running the oil recommened for your jeep mopar line very picky about oil viscosity will set codes if you use wrong one

 

I will be doing an oil change on the jeep this weekend for that the problem has not went away also when I try to speed up to speed limit engine screams in 4K rpms I'm scared to go past 5 sounds so loud likes it's about to blow up . So I'm changing the oil to royal purple . I will keep u guys updated if the oil change helps . Also when I checked the oil level it was just tiny bit below where it's suppose to be .

 

I have a 2017 JK wrangler unlimited and was thinking about putting a 2inch lift on it. If I do that would I need bigger tires or could I use the stock tires I have on it. Any suggestions will be helpful.

 

You can keep the stock tires. They may look silly, but you can always get the tires later.

 

I am trying to find a picture of a lifted truck with stock tires, that way I can see pictures before I do mine that way if it looks to silly then I wont do it until I get the tires lol. Your profile picture of your jeep, is that a 4 inch lift?
