I installed k&n air filter on my car. When my car is idle it makes a rumbling/vibration sound. Is that normal? Should I change back to a regular paper engine air filter! Thank you!

Unless the air filter is loose in the air box it shouldn't make any strange noises at idle. K+N users typically like the intake sound that's usually heard during acceleration or WOT. Change it back to the OEM filter to see whether the rumble or vibration goes away. Perhaps it was installed incorrectly or some hose or clamp was not reattached completely. Not to go off topic yet but I have an opinion on K+N filters.

:playball: so....i'LL be waiting for you to go off topic. You can always start another thread.

Oh....im sorry. Yeah I agree with aggrex. Make sure ever thing is hooked up right. You'd be surprised how some thing so small can make a huge difference.

K+N filters claim to increase HP and acceleration while providing excellent filtration. Some reviews state while K+N increases intake flow they also allow more contaminants/dirt into the engine. Cleaning and oiling the K+N air filters is extra work. Much easier to service with a high quality air filter replacement like the OEM air filter which IMO is made better, denser and fts better than some aftermarket replacements. Incorrect cleaning and oiling of the K+N filters could foul up the MAF and trigger an engine code. IMO the K+N filter is an over-hyped costly air filter that might be better for racing on the track where engines are at WOT and rebuilt regularly.

I knew I wouldn't have to wait long. Thanks aggrex. I had a K + N in my XJ. But I bought it 15 years ago. Thought maybe things have changed since. They did not. Didn't really see any great improvements. If any at all. Looking back, I think it was a placebo effect. Thought and wanted to get outstanding results. The brain can be a very powerful influence. Lol.

Not to mention. It's a pain in the ass to clean and re-oil. Thank you . I'LL stick with my paper element.
By the way. I'm still free for adoption. :) Another thread. Lol.

    Thank you.

I disagree on ya'lls stance on K&N filters, although they no longer own the market on high performance air filters. You'll notice that I said High performance. ON relatively stock low horse power vehicles you won't see much if any improvement, But lets take a 500+ HP motor where they move a whole lot more air. The less you restrict it the better the motor will perform especially with forced air induction, But this is the Jeep world where I'm still waiting for a HELLCAT JKU. Yes they are a pain to maintain, which is why I don 't use them anymore, plus I'm now in the Jeep world and Have given up the race world. I really have to avoid the King of Hammers. That could get expensive.
