Looking at this '06.

5 New 35" Tires & 18" Wheels, New Top, New Front Bumper & Winch, New suspension Bushings & Steering Stabilizer, New Fender Flares, 4" Lift, Some Poison Spider Furniture, Big Jack, Real Clean. 4.0 & 6 Speed. 4.10 Rear gear. It has 160K miles on it. 6

It's going to the mechanic in a couple hours to be looked over.

This will be a toy for my wife, she's wanted one for several years. Looking at some of the other stuff around it's not nears as good of shape and I'd have to add all the goodies for here.

He started at $15K and came down to $14K. Is that a fair price?

 

I see now. I think your on that cusp of good deal. With all the accessories being new you don't have any money going into it right away, hopefully. I know people say that 4.0s go 3-400,000 miles, but realistically Everyone I know has to rebuild around 225k. This will cost you around $4k. You can save about $1200 if you can pull it yourself and take it to a machine shop to have them rebuild the block and head. It is a beautiful jeep especially if the inside is as clean as the outside, and if I were looking for a Jeep for my wife or child I would strongly consider this one. Just another thought. With the 2018 Wrangler JL coming out, you could probably find a new 2016 or 2017 at the dealership for around $22K.

 

There was no objection to taking it to my mechanic, in fact he encouraged it. I just don't want her to over pay. She has been waiting and saving a long time to get one. Strictly a toy. Probably will be run less that 5000 miles a year. Doubtful any serious off road. She just like the look of big tires and other STUFF

 

That looks like a pretty solid deal. The Jeep looks to be in really good shape, and although it is pretty high mileage, it's obviously been taken care of.

I bought an '02, fully built with 52k mi for $14k. I got an absolute steal, but that should be a good reference for the Jeep you're looking at. That being said, I think 14k is fair for this Jeep. 13k would be a really good deal since it looks to be in excellent condition and is 4 years newer than my Jeep. Good luck!

 

I like it. When I was looking for my Wrangler. I looked at several that had about the same mileage for more money. Based on every thing the Jeep has now. You won't have to spend much more to make it hers. LEDs, seat covers etc etc. And for reference. I paid 24k out the door for my stock 2016 JK. And I have about 4k in it now. So my opinion. If your mechanic has no issues with it. Try and get him down another 500 - 1K. Wouldn't hurt. Lol.

BTW. It may start out as a toy. But once your wife spends some time behind the wheel. It won't be just a toy for long. Lol

Well I guess I'm not sold but she is. There's a couple things that bother me. One, behind the driver door on I guess what would be the bottom of the rocker panel there is a small hole rusted through. The other thing is there is a "check engine" light on. The seller told me he had it on a scanner and it was an oxygen sensor. The mechanic hooked it up and said it was cylinder 1 misfire. He said it was probably the coil pack. The seller has agreed to replace it. The mechanic told asked about power and is great. I went up a moderately steep hill in 6th gear 60mph and the speed was climbing so there is no lack there. The mechanic felt confident it was the coil pack but said it could be a warped head or block causing the misfire. It has new plugs in it. I asked her not to but she put a $400 deposit on it. I wanted her to wait until all the work was complete but she was afraid he'd sell it. She's a bit upset but I told her I wasn't giving him any more money until I knew it was GTG

 

The hole can be cut out and patched fairly cheap. It has 160000 miles on it. You are going to have maintenance. I feel it is a good jeep for a toy. If it was to be a daily driver I would say to save a little more and buy a newer jeep. I love driving my jeeps in all weather, but the rain, and drive them often. I am always glad that I have a daily driver so that when I have to replace, repair, or maintain I don't feel rushed. That being said, sometimes it takes me forever to finish a project.

 

So we had decided we were taking the Jeep but the guy was to take care of a couple things. One was the check engine light. We have been about 3 weeks now and everything he has done has not resolved the problem. "Misfire Cylinder 1"

The things he has said he's done are: Change coil pack, found a bad ground somewhere, new cat converter, switched plugs from another cylinder (even though they are new), checked compression (cylinder 1 was the lowest at 128 and the rest from 130-154), changed both oxygen sensors and other things I can't recall.

I've asked him to take it to the Jeep dealer and have it worked on but he wants his mechanic to take care of it.

My question, would you even consider buying this without having that taken care of?

The Jeep is nice and my wife has her heart set on it but I don't want to buy a pig in the poke.

Unless it was priced to where I can't refuse, the "check engine light" would be a problem at the DMV for me. I had no problems with dang TPMS light but the infamous "check engine light" would not pass inspection in my state.

 

Have you by any chance been looking at other Jeeps in the last 3 weeks. If you found a really good deal for less money it might be worth forgoing the deposit. You could probably get it back because he has not been timely in his repair of the jeep. I would go look this weekend at some others.

 

After a lot of thought she decided to look around a little. It was a tough decision for here because she really liked the Jeep but I'm glad she made it.
