Ok so I'm entering the jeep community and looking for a snazzy machine to get me where I need to go, I'm currently very interested in a 1999 jeep with 130k miles and as I am young and inexperienced, I'm not sure if I have a good deal in my hands.

Jeep has a 4 liter straight 6, 5 speed tranny. Jeep itself has a hundred and thirty thousand miles on it. Top end of the motor was rebuilt about 20,000 miles ago as well as the transmission and transfer case. It has a 5 & a half inch Teraflex long-arm lift kit with alco adjustable coil spacers all the way around so that you can adjust the ride height on it. It has a 1 inch body lift and it 1 inch motor mount lift to accommodate the Belly Up kit. The rear end is a Ford 8.8 with 31-spline chromoly axle shafts 488 gears and an e Locker. The front is a Dana 30 with chromoly shafts and a Spartan Locker and 4:88 gears. Has a Teraflex High steer kit and Teraflex anti-rock sway bar. It has new seats out of an 05 Wrangler and a rock hard roll cage that is powder coated. It has a cold air intake throttle body spacer stainless steel header and a Flowmaster cat back. It also has trail gear rear
bumper with tire carrier and matching spare tire and a smittybuilt front bumper with a new never used 9500 pound winch. These are just the big things done to it the list goes on for days. Most of the mods on the Jeep have less than 3,000 miles on them including the tires and wheels.

I'm a little concerned about the 130k miles and the fact that it's a 1999

The guy is asking 18k for it, is this reasonable?

    Welcome.

18K sounds like a lot to me. I would expect a whole lot more and better mods for 18k on a 99 wrangler. Like at least a Dana 44 up front with selectable locker. That Dana 30 is the weak Link and your looking at 3k For a Dana 44 or 60 + labor. If you can get him down to 12K or 13K at the most you would getting a good deal.

Look at it like this. How much can you find a stock 99 for? $6500-8000? At that point you could take the 10-12K you saved and build yours like you want it.

What about the mileage? Just in general is it bad to invest in a vehicle with 130k

18k is far too much. @UrbanCowboy bought an 03 tj that was previously owned by a fab shop and they used it to showcase their products. Fully built 03 tj with 56k miles and I believe they paid 15k

Most 4.0s last about 225K miles before the motor needs a full rebuild. If you pull the motor and strip it of all accessories most machine shops will charge about 2K to rebuild the long block. Your looking at another $1200 to have them do all the work. Don't be fooled by a pretty face? If it was me I'd pay $12500 tops. If he won't take it walk away. Being able to walk away from a nice ride is all the power. Leave him your number just in case he gets desperate to sell and he comes back to accept your offer. You will eventually find a good deal, you just have to keep looking.

Are you sure that the Spartan locker was in front and the selectable locker was in back. It is usually the other way around. Spartan lockers are locked 24/7 and that would make it more difficult to drive especially when in 4x4.

My Jeep sounds pretty similar to what you are looking at, but an '02 with 52k miles when I bought it for $14k. Granted, I got a smoking deal, but you should be paying about the same with 130k miles on that odometer.
