    I have a 2001 jeep cherokee limited, the rocker arm came off, we put it back on but it's loose, apparently from what I have read that is not good, how do I get it to not be loose and moving?

    4.6 stroker, m90 supercharger, true dual exhaust with sidepipes, old school 6 pack mopar hood scoop, and 3.55 gears front and rear
    Sorry to say but from what I see here is that you may have a bent push rod, bad lifter, and/or worn camshaft lobe.

    Could the lifter be stuck in the compressed position? Maybe sludge?

    The universal tool ( valve spring compressor) that was used to put it in does not work for the 2001 jeep v8 , we just put it in our self with out the tool.

    Are you hearing rocker arm/lifter chatter when the engine is running? I'm assuming you are feeling it being loose when the motor is not running. Did you just replace the one lifter or all of them. How many miles on the motor and has it been rebuilt.

    Yes it makes a noise, we seen the rocker arm laying there, and yes we are feeling it loose when the motor is not running, motor has not been rebuilt but I have put a lot of new parts on it, it was taken out and put back in.

    My opinion is one of 2 things. You have something blocking the oil channel under the tappet, or more likely you have a flat lobe and need a new cam.

    You have 12 Lifters with 12 lobes of the cam under them. If that 1 lifter is not lifting there is either no oil flow to expand the lifter, or the lobe itself is flat. If the lobe is flat you have to 1) have a lobe made and a machine shop press off the bad lobe and then press them all back on at the right degree (not worth the expense) or 2) order a Competition towing cam (for more low end torque) and replace it the existing cam.

    rockerlocks
    if you havn't started your motor the rocker arm will more than likely be loose until you start it & get oil pumped up to it.But if your rocker arm fell off you should install rockerlocks or it will happen again. Go to rockerlocks.com for more info.That's if it is a 4.7 i'm assuming.

    rockerlocks
    your lifter or slack adjuster as they call them now, is collapsed or stuck. you can replace the slack adjuster but if that's all you do your rocker will fall off again probably soon.get a new slack adjuster & go to rockerlocks.com & order a set of rockerlocks you will never have a problem again.these work on 3.7&4.7 motors.

    the fix was in my post go to rocker
    i did give you a fix in my post before go to rockerlocks.com.
    rocker locks are a spring clip designed to hold the rocker arms in place on the dodge ram & jeep 4.7 V8 and the 3.7 V6 [all years all models] to alleviate the problem of falling rockers.this is a non moving part it just sits there & holds the rocker in place probably will never wear out.
    I had this problem with my 03 ram 4.7 & found out [no one had a fix] so i set out to find one & i did, i designed a spring clip & put it on the 2 rockers [that fell off 3 times in 3 weeks] I have had no problem since, after about 4 months & 5000 miles later.these really work.call for more info

    @jimh142 Earlier I believe @JKBob 25 was referring to the OP or original poster when he asked what did you do to fix your issue, not you when you are posting a fix. We haven't heard back from Chelly on what she did to fix her problem. It is nice to know so that other people can come on here and find a fix for their problem. Your rockerlockers sound like a good fix and I will keep them in mind if I ever run accross this issue.
