Grand Cherokee, 6 cyl, oil pump

    The old oil pump kept oscillating between 40 psi and about 20 psi. Finally the other day my wife backed the car out of the garage and noticed that the gauge read 0. I replaced the oil pump and for the first 30 minutes or so the gauge stayed right on 50 psi. Then it began to oscillate between about 45 psi and 25 psi. I don't ever recall the gauge indicating these types of oscillations. Any thoughts?

    It is normal for the oil pressure to fluctuate. The pump is driven off of the camshaft and therefore as rpms increase so should the oil pressure. At idle mine is very low, and when driving the pressure is higher especially when the engine is cold when the oil is thicker.
