    And Wheel Works is trying to sell me a new tire... good grief. What happened to the good ol rubber patch? They say they don’t make those kinds of patches anymore. I think it’s a scam to sell more tires. Plus, it means they have to physically work less.


    Oooooh I’m frustrated.

    That's an unfortunate inconvenience. I'd plug that tire before giving up on it.

    I haven’t given up. This is old hat to me. It’s just disappointing to see and experience the current state of tire shops.

    But I did start looking at the 315/70R 17 Duratracs. Because every work truck needs 35’s, right? :D

    Annnnnd WW was actually able to repair it. :facepalm:

    I’m just glad to have my tire and wheel back. Now that I’m headed back to the same new construction site that I assume I picked up the nail in the first place...:turtleride:

    Damn, auto correct got me again! I am usually attentive to grammatical mistakes of my own. Oh well, goes to show just how frustrated I was with the entire scenario.

    I know the feeling, bout punctures. Seems ever time I buy new tires. wham, and there you go. you wouldn't believe how many tires I've worn out after a patch job. I keep and use those sticky cord patches. You probably seen those they use two tools. one is a point rasp, shove it back and forth down the hole. then use the needle eye tool with the cord, shove it in the tire, withdraw the tool. wallow like new. Never ever had to repatch the hole. I have found the problem and never take the tire off the vehicle. I love nails and heavy wire, their easier to fix.

    Yeah, I have plugged, patched, shoe-goo’ed my way through all kinds of tire repairs. I’m no stranger to fixing things. The problem is how tire shops(at least here in the Bay Area) just assume they can sell you a new tire instead of fixing the simple puncture. If only I still had my own shop to take care of these little mundane life events.

    some one said, its a liability thing, like most places don't want customers in the work area, because of being liable. I think it's mostly a money thing. There's a lot of people out there that doesn't know how to do anything, so they take advantage of them. Can't patch it, we will sell you a new one. Ha! Ha!. You know what I mean. I'm 74 year of age and I've run into a lot of stuff, out there.

    paid cash for it.
    There’s nothing wrong with a patch if it’s done correctly. And there’s nothing wrong with a plug as a temporary fix on the road and trail. It’s being able to recognize the difference between the two that is important to your safety. And if you have others driving that vehicle such as teenagers, or loved ones with little mechanical acumen if something goes wrong on a high speed road, a new tire is the price of peace of mind for them.

    I appreciate your cautious tone. Fortunately for me, and only me, it’s my work truck. No one else is allowed to drive it per the corporate insurance policy. The only people driving this thing will be an employee of an automotive repair facility(highly unlikely as I like to work on my own vehicles) or a tow truck driver. My last work truck I put all 159k worth of miles on it. I have plenty of experience with patches/plugs and the plug-patch combo. I work in areas that are usually under new construction. I was just surprised to have a puncture within the first thousand miles.
