2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee. Can anyone tell me what all the fluid is and where it’s coming from ? Looks like grease, but not sure where it would be coming from. It was only like this on the rear drivers side. Thanks

Looks maybe like a wheel cylinder Check the reservoir to see if it has brake fluid or almost empty. The one picture looks like maybe the brake caliber is bad also

Agreed...brake cylinder is likely the source of the wetness. Diagonal braking systems probably allowed you to make it home. Repair is not difficult.

You are going to want a replace the brake shoes and pads when you do job and any other parts you see that is bad when you do the brake job. If you don’t know what you are doing get help it’s not really a hard job but it’s ur BRAKES!!

I discovered this when checking my brake pads. I thought I needed new ones bc I heard a some squeaking but all the pads have a lot of life left. Just wondering how you can that the caliper is bad? The guy from the place I bought it from said that caliper was new. But then again he supposedly replaced the bad muffler with a “new” one and this is what it looks like a few months later..

Well the pads look pretty good but the rear shoes look pretty bad even if the shoes were new they are soaked with fluid and would need to be replaced but they looked pretty bad I don’t think they are new.

Ok thanks. I checked the brake fluid reservoir and it’s full. I will look in to the brake cylinder and hopefully that takes care of it

Was it full where you couldn’t get another drop? A little fluid goes a long ways and may make quite a mess it could be the wheel seal but with the Front brake caliper being wet with fluid I tend to believe it’s the Brake cylinder

Interesting, looks like somebody replaced the calipers and brake shoes without changing brake cylinders. What a way to save money!

Yes the pads all look new , that’s why I didn’t change them last weekend.. the shoes are probably old but that wasn’t a concern, I’m just worried about whatever is leaking.

Well if and when you find the leak fix it and then replace the shoes if not then are going to be in the dum before too long
