Hi – please help. I recently bought a 1992 YJ, base model. I also purchased a Smittybilt hardtop for it off Craigslist. It’s a T-top style fiberglass top. The top went on fine but the doors are an issue. They ae not seating properly and are canted in, especially on passenger side, so door basically can’t close. What might I have done wrong? I just dropped it in to the same pin holes for the OEM soft top – are there different inserts I need for the holes? Thanks for your help!

Welme @maebin ....Nice YJ with OEM half doors. Buying used hard tops can be problematic but your hard top appears to fit nicely. Are the upper door halves OEM or did you buy them with the hard top? Obviously the upper door halves are not compatible with all the components as there really is no room to spare above or below the upper halves and adjusting the OEM doors would not help neither. Not recommending this idea yet but if the back section of the hard top was raised 1/4" higher with a rubber seal or spacer the upper doors halves might close nicely. Just hate to see the alignment of the OEM half doors changed.

Thanks. Yes it's in stunningly good shape. The 1/2 doors came with the top, they're Smittybilt and should fit. Bought the dang top because I saw Smittybilt is still in business, thought i could get support, but sadly found out afterwards that it's not the same company. They bought name and product line but discontinued hardtops.

Yeah unfortunately not everything made by Smitty today has a high rep thus in some circles it's known as Shittybilt. The original Smitty made some good Jeep stuff back in the day. If you have some YJ buddies try borrowing a Bestop upper in the hopes for a better fit on your YJ+Smitty hard top.
If I remember correctly some doors had a rounded corner up top and some were more angular but your rounded corner door top fits nicely.
