93 ZJ TCC Lockup Solenoid Failing Symptoms and Replacement

Pretty sure I have a TCC Solenoid problem. I/We know my wires are burnt, disconnected, and damaged. What symptoms does a failing TCC Solenoid have and how can I test it ? That way I'll know if I need a whole new solenoid or just need to replace and rewire the wires/connector.



If I need to replace the whole solenoid, how do I do that ?

then check continuity thru the solenoids at the transmission pass thru connector.

I cut a 3 wire connector from a transfer case on a Jeep Grand Cherokee in the salvage yard... Can I just wire this to the wires already on the transmission and replace the old connector with this connector?

 

is that the same connector on your trans - Will it plug in?
If yes just wire to match your solenoids.

 

No it wasn't... It was bigger than the one on my transmission. Can't seem to find too many 46RH transmissions at scrap yards around me. Does the 46RE have this plug too ? Noticed alot of 96-99 grand cherokee and cherokee with 4.0 straight 6 engines, do their transmissions have this plug ? Where else can I find a small 3 wire plug on a Jeep or Mopar vehicle ?

 

46re transmission plug is not the same as the 46rh. The 46rh has a 3-pin connector 46re has an 8 pin connector. Are there any Dodge trucks that have 46rh transmission?

These trans don't kook like they are interchangeable, the 95 fits- 93,94,95 and the 97 fits 96,97

 

So any Jeep or Dodge with a 5.2 or 5.9 liter engine years 93 through 95 should have the 46RH transmission.

 

do you have in hand what is left of your connector?
If you do go to a local auto part store and try to match, Maybe TPS, CMP, any 3 wire may be the same the 46 was used on many Mopar vehicles. It will match the OD and TCC solenoids which they likely have in stock to try.

maybe just maybe - cross referance mopar #5013933AA do not purchase without checking and cross referencing to a aftermarket part.

 

I rewired the solenoid connector wires and I still have the same problem. I cut the connector from the bad wire and reconnected new wire where the bad was cut off. Looks like to me, the solenoid itself could be faulty or the connector could be faulty but I can't find just a connector so I might as well replace the whole solenoid. How do I do that?

 

Good job on the wire repair. Reconnect to see if the problem is resolved. From past experience with Honda transmission solenoids I unbolted the bolt(s) and simply replaced the problem part.

 

I did plug it back in and the problem still persist. What is why I think it's just either the whole solenoid itself is faulty or the plug is faulty.

What is ohm reading 2 to 3 ?
