That adapter that he's using to install the new cat converter, what size adapter from that to 2 1/4 is he using ?

 

Looks like a reasonable method to install a replacement CAT. Like the band clamps. Those adapters are available at auto parts stores. Once you cut your pipe and have the replacement CAT in your hands start measuring the inner+outer diameters of all connecting pipes to find the adapter that best matches your combination. What adapter he used in the video might not work for your jeep or it could be the same. Post a comment on the video and he may answer.

 

He purchase a 2 1/4" ID coupler. Once you have all the parts that are to be connected together measured ID + OD then shop for couplers and/or reducer adapters.

 

I don't think I have enough money for the those clamps, but I have that sealant tape that he has and I can get some "u clamps".

 

How many of those clamps would I need? He has a U clamp on the rear end of the cat and that other clamp on the front after he sealed it down with that tape, meaning he used one where he use the connector

 

The size of that band clamp, should I get that in 2 and 1/4 or two and a half?

 

Your situation may vary from what was used in the video. Buy what you think you need, finish the job and return the unused parts. Your universal CAT and adapters will dictate the width but U-bolt clamps should work too.

 

Whole exhaust pipe is 2 1/4 so I bought everything (band clamps and connector) in 2 1/4

 

Cat converter is cut out... There's no honey comb in it left. And there's a piece rolling around in it... I knew that was the rattling sound.

 

So I ran into a problem with the muffler... I have 2 options...#1 hanging it up somehow so I can drive because I'm going to need another pipe connector to attach the new cat converter. I broke the U clamp nuts and stud on both ends of the old cat converter trying to remove them. The only place I have to hang it from is the remaining pipe behind u clamp

#2 I can remove the muffler and replace it with a straight pipe ...?

 

The problem is I'm at someone else's house and I'll need to leave by today. The muffler is hanging about a couple of inches from the ground and I don't see where I can mount it with anything to bring it above the ground level its at. I also need another connector due to having to cut both ends of the cat converter to get it out. Not only do I need to leave here but I also need to leave to go by that connector and straight pipe and connectors and clamps to get the straight pipe in to replace the muffler

 

Here are the dimensions of the exhaust pipe. The first picture is from the engine and the second picture is from the back of the car where your muffler goes out. These look to be two and a half inches in diameter, would I need to get two and three quarter inch connectors for these two ends ?

 

I cut off the muffler. I'm going to attempt to straight pipe where the muffler was, after the converter.

By the way, I didn't have to remove the O2 sensor to install this converter. I'll share the link, pics, and what I used when I'm finished.

 

If that pipe is no longer round you might have to cut more.

 

It's round, I just cut it a little off angle, hard to reach lol

 

The length of the muffler is roughly 27 inches long. A straight pipe of 2 inch and a half diameter, at 27 inches long should do the trick as far as straight piping it after the cat converter. What kind of steel pipe can/should I use to straight pipe where the muffler used to be?

In case your wondering what tape is used, it's Rust -O- Leum Seal Leak tape. Welds together as it heats off the pipe..
