93 ZJ Front Driver's Hub Stuck On Axle

I'm replacing my Hub and bearings on my front tires and I'm stuck on the driver side because the Hub broke into pieces when I simply pulled on the Hub. I can't get off the Hub that's attached to the dust guard and axle. Anybody have any ideas how to get this off?

 

Damn you think a drill hammer, impact hammer, or even a sledgehammer would get it off ?

 

This guy is using an air hammer which requires a air compressor and I don't own one... Are the cordless and corded ones good enough?

I had the same problem once. Had to beat the crap out of it with a hammer. It finally came out but it was work.

 

Understand money may be tight but small air compressors are not too spendy and can be useful for other things like nail guns, paint etc. Can you rent one or borrow from the uncle? Otherwise try hitting the hub manually with the sledge+sharp chisel around the hub.

 

The only problem with an air compressor is my Jeep is far from an electrical outlet and I would have to also get a generator or an AC outlet for the cigarette lighter in the Jeep. Or get about 100 or 200 ft of extension cable. I found a cordless hammer drill at harbor Freight for 75 bucks and I have the money for it, what do you think about it? Figured I add a chisel and knock it off. Plus I can use the 20% coupon

Those type of hammer drills are designed to hammer+drill drill bits into concrete. Probably not enough to loosen that hub.

 

have you tried driving a chisel into the locations marked to force hub off?

As the 3 points are threaded can you make a puller and press onto axle to remve hub?

Can you rotate hub so the 3 threaded bolt holes are over a solid knuckle area?

Go get a lottery ticket that luck has got to change big time.

 

You might try this before spending money..

 

I've tried a couple of Flathead screwdrivers and broke them both as I was hammering them. I did notice those pry spots though. Should I get a chisel and a big hammer?

 

What size is that extension?

 

Looks like a 3/8" drive, 3" long. A spare large diameter bolt would work as well.

 

Like @Prerunner1982 idea but see if the auto parts can rent a larger version of this puller

 

I bought this with a demolition chisel set.

 

If that works thats using ya noggin. Just don't break anything else!

 

I'm hoping so, and I'm only going to touch the hub. I have brand new replacement hubs and bearings to put on and this old one is broken anyway so I'm going to destroy it lol

 

By the look of that CV axle video, you think I should replace that too? would it be a wise idea to pull a used one from the scrap yard?

 

Hmm..if the scrap yard axle is worse than yours all that stuff has to come off again
