    Trying to buy a cat converter but I need the dimensions. Anybody know the dimensions of the circumference outlets that attach to exhaust ?

    I don't know your Jeep exhaust pipe dimensions but the retailer should be able to select the one for your '93 GC V8. Exhaust flange adapters should be available to mod odd size cat pipes. IMO buy the cat after all the other problem(s) are resolved unless the GC has failed DMV inspection or proof of cat failure.

    The one I'm looking at is universal, but in order to know if it fits I need to know the dimensions to match with the cat converter dimensions...is what the seller is telling me.

    Universal cat could be tricky to install. Compare this Walker cat direct fit for example $154 and the list some pipe diameter. Walker is a good brand, stainless steel and a warranty designed to fit!

    As mentioned by @aggrex . Universal may be hard time it without some type of adapter. Which is just a pain in the ass. My second Jeep, my GFs 98 ZJ, is 2.50 exhaust system. Most are these days. Your much better off with a stock replacement.

    Auto parts store might have the adapters/reducers needed to make it work.

    Im curious as tomwhynyour not opting to get a direct stock replacement? Is the price difference, with the adapters, that significant?

    So far doing it this way is in my favor. The cat I'm looking at is brand new and only $44 with the adapters sums it up to about 60 bucks so far... So far depends on what else I'll need to put the adapter on such as flanges, clamps, or weld it. Is it just as easy as assemble it together and clapping it down or will I need to seal it up with flanges and weld it down ?

    Sorry dude. $44 for a converter? Well...keep in mind. You get what you pay for. And when you have to replace it next year. You'll remember me bustin your balls. Just noticed the one your looking at. Does not have a sensor port. Curious what your plans are for that. Good chance the issues it will cause. You won't pass any state inspection. Engine light on.

    We just replaced my GFs in her 98. It was the original. Lasted 20 plus years. True story.
    Don't get me wrong. Im not critizing or saying your wrong. Im just trying to help and make sure your looking at all your options. And keep in mind. When using adapters. It changes the dimensions of the rest of your exchast system.

    I don't think the converter on a right now is the original. The one I have on it right now doesn't have an O2 Port either. Even if it only lasts me 6 months but that's fine by me because 6 months from now I won't be in as much debt that I'm in now then drop that $200 for an original replacement but I hear where you're coming from. This is just to get me going for now. So one side fix the exhaust pipe spot on and the other one will require the 2.50" to 2.25" adapter. Can I just clamp those ends down ? I'm also buying a new O2 sensor... But from what I've seen and what I have on my Jeep, is one 02 sensor and that's the one upstream towards the engine... I don't see a downstream sensor or a second sensor for that matter but I'm about to start researching that again.

    Good exhaust clamps could do a sufficient job or at least get you to a shop. Would make it easier to replace the cat the next time. If there are no current O2 sensor engine codes perhaps the down stream sensor was never there.

    Or what about this direct fit? These inlet/outlet will slide over or in to my exhaust pipes? Hopefully in so I can clamp them down...

    There was a check engine code for rich gas...

    Here are the codes and their definitions.

    12 - Direct battery input to PCM was disconnected within the last 50 Key-on cycles.

    45 - Overdrive solenoid - open or shorted condition detected in overdrive solenoid circuit.

    51 - A lean air/fuel mixture has been indicated by an abnormally rich correction factor. (O2 sensor)

    17 - Engine did not reach operating temperature within acceptable limits. Engine does not reach 20 degrees F. within 5 minutes with a vehicle speed signal.

    The above ebay cat has a plug hole for an O2 sensor so start looking for some cut or tucked away wire harness.

    Couple advantages "direct-fit" and bolt plug incase it's needed. Stainless steel contruction? Warranty? Or just another $76 cat for now?
