Backfiring on downshift

    95 yj 2.5l
    Have a 95 jeep with 2.5 and when I downshift, I have suddenly gotten a backfire when I do. Sounds like glass packs exhaust almost. New plugs, wires, rotor and cap....no change

    Welcome @Johnheard361 back in the carb days over rich fuel mix was culprit and/or advanced timing. Hang on for some other areas to inspect to pinpoint the problem.

    check for codes.
    Any exhaust leaks?
    Check for vacuum leaks.

    2 inch lift, bumper and winch 33" mud claw
    Advance timing was usually the culprit back in the day of carburetors

    3 inch zone lift. Fox 2.0 shocks. 35 inch nitto ridge grapplers. Bushwacker flat fenders. No name steel bumpers front and back for now.
    Beat me to the exhaust leaks. I bet that's what it is

    91 yj soft top with half doors
    Make sure plug wires match fireing order. and #1 plug wire is on #1 distributor cap. Good luck
