For those new to Amateur Radio, Field Day is the largest ham radio event in North America. Clubs/Groups set up temporary stations and portable antennas and operate off back up power(battery/generator) to simulate a wide spread disaster. The event runs for 24 hours and each group tries to make as many contacts as possible......or just enjoy hanging out, or both.

This is a good time to get on HF if you are a tech or get on the air if you are not licensed.

Field day starts at 1800 UTC (2pm Eastern / 11am Pacific) time on Saturday June 23 but set up begins typically around 8am. Set up is a good time to take a look at different antennas and how they can be erected and most clubs are always looking for people to help set up…and take down.

There are groups participating around the country. You can find them at www.arrl.org/field-day-locator

Or you can post your area below and I will be happy to find one for you.

I know there isn't a lot of interest here but I will bump this thread anyways.
It's that time of year again, this year Field Day is on June 22-23rd (always 4th full weekend in June).
It's a good way to get introduced to the capabilities of ham radio.

Let me know if you have any questions.

Ultimately HAM is the way to go! CBs serve a need but lack the range and power of HAM.

The last 5 years I have hung out with the local club but this year I decided to do my own thing and will be setting up in my yard. Since my radio is in the back of the Jeep I am going to deploy the awning, set up next to the Jeep, and put up my portable antenna.

CBs are ok, but there are better options.
About the only thing CB has going for it is no license and it's still the most popular.

@TJ_abuser there are going to be a bunch of FD stations setup around the DFW area.

2020 Field Day. With most clubs not going any group operating and after being stuck at home for a couple months the campgrounds finally opened and I took advantage of the opportunity to get away. Made 160 contacts which is better than I did last year so I can't complain.

Took 50 miles of back roads (by choice) to get here. Ran a new homemade antenna this year, can see part of it over the front of my Jeep. The middle of it is strung up in the tree the solar panel is laying against behind my Jeep.

Not a bad view from the shore at my camp site, was a bit warm and muggy so it was nice to take a dip during the day and before dark to cool down.
