New 92 YJ project owner considering adding a 13 Rubicon

    Hi,
    I am glad to have found this forum. A few months ago I picked up a great running 92 yj (4.0 and 5spd) original paint is kinda rough, ofometer is stuck on 177k. Mainly its a project for my kid and I.

    Well now I have found a nice looking 2013 Rubi 4 door with almost 60k miles with automatic. Carfax is clean with one owner. It was repoed at present mileage, March 2015. Sounds good to me. But carfax also show this is third dealer that has bought it at auction. So I am a little leery why it hasn't sold yet. Any thoughts?

    I am taking my car to possibly trade tomorrow. Anything I should look for or ask about? I would appreciate any comments/input.

    Has it been auctioned 3 times, or is it the 3rd dealer to have possession. If it was repossessed, it would have gone straight to auction. From there a wholesaler (dealers that sale to other dealers) could have bought it then sold it to a retail dealer who then traded to another dealer for a car that they had a buyer for. 3 dealers. On another note, building a Jeep with your boy is awesome. My boy and I are always working on something. I wouldn't trade those moments for anything else.

    Thanks Offgrid. Actually its my daughter, only child, that is totally into the jeeps. We have had alot of fun already. She even changed out the headlights all by herself. I am proud of her.

    I am about to go look and drive the Rubicon. We will see.

    Numbers didn't work out on that Rubicon:( Still shopping.

    I would love a Rubicon. The one I looked at with 60k miles was $35,000. Tires only had a few thousand miles left on them and there was a slight shimmy in front end. No warranty. Now I really don't need a Rubicon. Mostly it will be a daily with some normal mud 4 wheeling at the hunting club.

    I am tempted to buy a new sport model with full warranty for the same $35k and know what I have. Likely better financing too.

    Any thoughts or opinions are appreciated.

    I'm of the mindset of "Buy what you want", Get the one you are looking for, that way you don't have any regrets. I bought a Rubicon 'cause I wanted the gearing, lockers, and skid protection, and felt the increased price was worth the factory installed items I wanted. A friend of mine bought the Sport, as he didn't need the lockers, and wanted to add skid plates and such as money allowed. Personally, I would make a list of the things you want in a Jeep, then make another list of the items you would compromise on for a particular price point. THEN........let the search begin! :)

    Thanks again Chris, I am so new to jeeps I am not exactly sure what I want. I have had a 4x4 truck my whole driving career and jeeps are a new world. Guess I'll be reading a lot and asking lot of questions here. Thanks everyone for the input.
