I Just DID an oil change and filter , that little drain plastic oil drip tray under the oil filter was a real pain to get off so I cut mine also and put it back on not to tight But I almost left it off . so do I need that anyway the bolt it pretty long and it goes into the front axle case, one question does that one bolt keep the oil in the front axle case is it really needed that bolt ? https://postimg.cc/cgzxBmj5 https://postimg.cc/qtXQKDt4

Welcome! Next time try removing the oil filter from the top rather than from under the jeep. When you removed that long bolt was it clean, dry or oil soaked? That drip tray was designed to control oil spillage when removing the oil filter. If you have removed the tray perhaps a shorter bolt could be used.

Hi, The Bolt was dry but putting it back together the bolt never seated enough to really lock down the plastic it was like a floating type fit even when the bolt itself was tight.

Use a few washers as spacers with the long bolt and just secure the drip tray.

I don't own a Jeep Liberty but as mentioned try removing the oil filter next time from above. Removal of the drip tray each time kinda defeats the purpose.

Never seen a drip tray except maybe on a riding mower. Perhaps the engineers knew it was best not to have oil dripping onto an important component below the oil filter?

THATS JUST IT , There isn't any important components below it and even if water splashed up on the filter is would not mater .
