Welcome! Stick with 17" wheels for most versatility then run them around for awhile before jumping into regearing as 33s are only an inch larger than most stock JKs.

I am running 35s and I put 4.88 gears in it. My fuel mileage is great and feels like it has more power than stock. My Jeep came stock with 3.21 gears. When I put the 35s on it she would never use overdrive. On the flattest road running 75 it would shift into overdrive and right back out. Another reason I went with 4.88 gears is I plan on upgrading to 38s.

I find this a very interesting subject. Ive read numerous articles and threads here that i always end up questioning what gears im running. Why....

I'm sitting on 35s. I've posted a pic of my mpgs. 19.5 highway. As far as I know. I have 3.21s. That's according to the dealerships shit sheet. But...I've recalibrated the tranny shifting points with OB puter with a Fashcal Superchip for the tire size. Had to play with it. But I found it's sweet spot. Excellent acceleration, from a stand still or passing. I can see tach drop, and hear rpms drop to overdrive at highway speeds. On a recent trip. 250 miles plus. Averaged 20.3. :notsure:. And...infused the AC.

@Brocksasser_16 . Welcome to the forum. See the can of worms ya opened. Lolllll. Hope we helped ya.

Agreed, But for us as a personal preference, we selected to upgrade the gears upon special ordering the jeep. We went from 3.21 to the 3.73, the only reasons we did this was because somewhere in the near future we may end up towing a small trailer with the jeep. Seeing how the small 2.5 lift has been added to the jeep, we've reached a cross road to either 33's which could have fit even without the lift or 34's which is an odd ball size. We're not looking to go any larger tire then this.

    Edit:

Just wanted to add.. why are you wanting larger tires in the first place?. if you're simply going for athletics and not actually using the tires, you're wasting your money buying larger tires which may or may not see a trail and may even end up wasting your gas because you've selected the incorrect tire/gearing ratio etc. So going large isn't all it's cracked up to be unless you're going to use it.

From what I have seen every jeep is different. We couldn’t get 13mpg out of our jeep running down the highway with the stock gears and 35s. My brother has the exact same jeep with the same lift and tires and he gets 17 on the highway running the same speed. We both have the superchip programmer in them. I also upgraded the exhaust and air intake. So I think that no two Jeeps are going to be the same when it comes to fuel mileage.

Larger tires is a preference. If you use them or not. If your willing to spent the extra money on something to make your jeep look better then why not do it. It’s like spending a little extra money to get the color you want or leather seats. You don’t need it but it’s what you want. My Jeep spends a lot more time on the pavement then dirt but I like how it looks with bigger tires so that’s what I run.
