20180614_174534.jpg After removing the tie rods, cleaning them up and inspecting them they seem ok.
Tears in the boots and the rubber if cracked and dry rotted but the joints are nice and tight.
I got some new polyurethane boots to replace the rubber ones and cleaned the entire bar.
Now I only need the drag link.

    • Reattached tie rods
    • Attached the drag link
    • Fixed the steering wheel / tire position by adjusting collar in drag link
    • Torqued everything I replaced.

I then did a test drive.
    Steering still feels TERRIBLE. :(

Jeep seems to have a brand new adjustable track bar. Rough country I suspect. It looks good.

The axle end of the track bar is loose as hell, not even finger tight. The terrible popping I hear from the suspension could be coming from that.

Does anyone know how you tighten the nut on the back of the track bar where it mounts to the axle? I can't fit a wrench in there.

There should be a nut in there with a tab on it that wont allow it to spin in the bracket I have attached a pic, if it is not there you are in for a fun time. I have had to wedge a pry bar up against the nut in the bracket and impact the bolt out a ton over the years. The popping and driving bad is likely the loose track bar.

Thx. I just have to get the old one out of there now and hopefully find somewhere to purchase this.

    20180712_194621.jpg I think that I found a solution.
It will require that I purchase another 3/4 inch wrench.
    :(
Still much cheaper than most alternatives.

Feels MUCH safer to drive now. (Exept for the shiny wrench sticking out by the track bar)
    Measured the alignment.
The alignment is off by half an inch in the front.
Priced a custom rear drive shaft. Will be replacing that with one that fits the 6.5 inch lift.
I was told by the previous owner that the front drive shaft was bad but I am beginning to suspect that it is functional but too short due to the lift that he installed.
Will be checking that out soon too.

Before you get a custom driveshaft look at doing an SYE with a double cardan shaft it will be much better for your application. They allow the shaft to be run at more of an angle, which is good for lifted vehicles.
