I have an 04 unlimited. My ignition switch went out on me. I had a friend who was supposed to just drag it to the shop. In his infinite wisdom he tried to hot wire it. That obviously didn't work. Took it to the shop and they replaced the ignition. Still wouldn't start. It would start for a few seconds and cut off . I had a local lock company come by and thier computer kept saying communication failure . Any ideas?

    Welcome to Jeeps.net.

It's hard to say given that your friend was in there, there is no telling what he was trying to do to hot wire it.
Sounds like it may be time to try your hand as a contortionist, lay in the front floor board and chase some wires.
Your friend may have left the hot wiring as he had it instead of as he found it so look for wires that are taped together or cut and no longer connected.

Welcome! Locate the hotwire specialist and find out what was touched as other components may be involved now

Welcome to the forum @Outrigger04unlimited. That was going to be my suggestion. Let your buddy crawl back under there and make it right again. A Hellva lot easier to diagnose issue when it's back to stock.

Friends don't let friends work on wiring...... No telling what your buddy did, I agree with the rest of them. Time to get the multimeter, and wiring diagrams out and start chasing the problem(s). Good luck....Don't take it to a shop they will rape you on wiring diagnostic.
