Need your help choosing a tire hopefully before Saturday

I'm shopping for tires again and I hate it. I'd almost rather have my teeth pulled. Ok not really.

I'm between 3 tires and want the best off-road tire. Don't care about on road manners.

Cooper MTP
Maxxis Razr

Originally wanted trepadors but don't want a directional tire.

Size will be 35x12.5x15

Depends on what you want to do. I know you don't want a directional tire, but If you are crawling you can't get a better tire than the treps. First set of Cooper tires I ever bought had bad carcasses. They were new in the light truck department. I put a lot of miles on my truck back then at least 100000 a year. The tires (all of them) had broken belts after 12000 miles. They refused to warranty them or replace them. I got shafted and went to Nitto (my favorite all round tire for light offroad and street driving). I found out that a year letter they recalled the tire replacing everyone free of charge. Of course I no longer have the tires in possession, and there for again they wouldn't take care of things. You can see why I will never buy a Cooper tire again. Of the 3 you have chozen I would go with the Maxxis.

What I want to do is get as extreme as one can get with a stock jku in desert mountainous terrain. Gravel, rocks, dirt, sand, dunes, clay.

I see where you're coming from with cooper.

I considered the nitto mt but does not come in my size.

What makes you say there's nothing better than treps for crawling? Serious question lol.

I know a guy with 40" treps on his and 35" razrs on the wifeys jeep.

When I recently asked him he said the next 40" will be the razr for his JKUR, which has a 700 hp Hellcat engine.

He says the trep is awesome but the razr has been 'doing good.' That's all he said :/

I plan on getting more details next time we trail.

He's also had the creepy crawlers that he says the radial treps are just as good off-road but much better on road.

I am getting an awesome deal on the treps tho. 1700 out the door with 5 alloy wheels.

I think that's a good deal but ugh the directional thing. Makes me cringe.

I think ill sacrifice some crawling for a 5 tire rotation and longer tread life and a spare tire I can use on either side.

Another thing is that the treps have been around for ages and tires have made improvements as far as compounds and durability.

I had the maxxis buckshot mudders and those things are super soft and sticky. They will crawl on the sidewall easily.

But the razr has a different harder compound.

Shopping for tires is the worst. I'd rather be mauled by a bear. Ok not really.

But still.

Right now the way the stt pros flex so nicely and the white letters are drawing me in lol.

We just went thru the tire decision, settled on the STT Pro. They won't be installed for a couple of weeks so I can't offer any experience.

I got a little impatient and leaned them up against the Jeep Wednesday night

 

You can rotate the tires just like you would NDs, but you have to take them off the rim to rotate. I would rotate front to back first, then have shop to left to right. then the next rotation back to front and then have shop to left to right again etc. Discount tire has always been cheapest for me and if I ever find a better price, I know they will match. Also they have free tire rotation. As far as what makes me say they are the best. . . I've seen them in action, both the stickies and bias. I've never seen anything grip like them. I currently have stickY BFGs, but My father recently bought sticky Treps, and I am sold. For a good inexpensive tire that performs pretty well on and offroad and is very quiet I have the Toyo MTs on my CJ. The tires I have run are Hancooks AT & MT(never again, multiple tread seperations), BFG AT, MT & sticky. The BFG stickies are the best of the three, But mind you the stickies are offroad only. I do drive on the street minimally with them, but if you drive regularly on the concrete you won't have to worry about rotation cause you wont make it to 5000miles. Nitto Ats love them for street and light trail especially on heavy trucks. Cooper never again. SuperSwamper LTBs love them on and offroad great in mud and rock, but noisy. Superswamper SXR radials again great tire, and less noisy, very doable. Im not a big fan of BFGs, something in the manufacturing changed back in the late 90s, and I feel that there construction is inferior (I started having trouble with their carcasses warping, making it impossible to balance the tire, and causing uneven wear. You ask why i have BFG stickies then, and that is because they are the first stickies on the market. My last pro-comment for Treps is watch the professional technical crawling competitions and look and see what most of them are running. You guessed it MaXXis Trepadors (sticky; also none as competition). This is all my opinion so take it with a grain of salt, because when it comes to tires everyone has had different experiences and many are very loyal to a tire brand.

...you might want to consider a lift. You’re going to have some tire rub for sure.

 

What are these “lifts” you speak of??

 

There are lots to consider when going larger tires. First the size of the tire, IMO should be your first choice. Then from there it will only cost money-LOL. This I know very well. Now if you go a bigger tire a lift kit to lift the jeep away from the tires for clearance and they wont rub or hit. Then if the tire size goes larger than 37 most people will do an axle swap usually to dana 60s. Some people will build there axles with truss and axle shaft upgrades etc. You will need bigger brakes and probably more horse power (torque for jeep). There is also gear upgrades and much more. If you have no problem and are willing to do or have someone do it for you you can cut sheet metal to help fit tires under your jeep. I trimmed my fenders to run 37s. Cut my sliders also. I also installed flat fenders. As you can see from the pics I will hit the inner fenders rub and possibly cut my tires so I will be getting a lift kit. Works good on the street but I need a lift kit to really use this off road. Take your time and decide what you want to do with your jeep. Do your research and talk on the forum here I sure the folks here will share their advice and knowledge. Good luck

You got me to reconsider the treps again with that rotation strategy.

But I'm considering the radial treps, not bias or comp.

Do you still feel the radial treps are the best of the other 3 mentioned?
