Hi y'all so I've recently been thinking about trading in my 2016 Toyota Tacoma TRD off-road 2wd for a 2017 JK rubicon. My current truck is a lease I found a jeep dealership willing to buy out my lease and put me in a new jeep. I've always been a Toyota guy because of their reliability but I've always had a love for how the wranglers look and handle off-road. My biggest issue with going to jeep are the reliability issues, my fiancé is especially concerned with that. If you guys have any advice or just want to share some of your experiences with your jeep I'm happy to hear what you have to say. Thanks in advance.

I came from a 2013 trd sport. The wrangler is a better off road vehicle in every way. I have broken down on the trail with both of them. Kinda just depends how hard you go. The third gen taxomas are not nearly as bullet proof as the 2nd gen.
Toyota did hastle me a little bit when fixing things under warranty after it was modified, jeep has had 0 pushback from the modifications.

Welcome! Jeeps don't have the stellar reliability reputation that some other brands have but my JK has been great. Duds can be found with any brand so take a test drive and see if the JK fits your life style as the pickup does have more utility which is why I own both types of vehicles.

The JK has been a very reliable vehicle sense its inception. It all goes out the window if you are going to seriously off road it.

Welcome! Had a couple generations of Tacoma, and they are great trucks. When I made the switch to a Jeep Wrangler, it was due to not needing a truck anymore, but an SUV instead. 2 choices were the 4Runner, and the JK. JK won out with off road capability, and its easier to put the roof back on the Wrangler after removal, than the 4Runner. More rear leg room, and my cousins had the wranglers and liked them. So I made the switch. No regret! Love the jeep!

I definitely don't plan on keeping it stock for long. The biggest issue I have with my Tacoma is lack of power, I have to floor it to get up any sort of moderate incline, and if it's a big hill it's pretty much at redline.

I don't use the truck as a truck on a daily basis but for camping trips I have the bed loaded up with gear.

Ohh I'm sure putting the roof back on a 4Runner might be a tad difficult since they're not designed to come off ;) I really love the JK just have to convince the fiancé that it's not the piece of junk she thinks jeeps are.

Despite all the pro+con advice about JK ownership, my coworker at 60+ just traded his '13 Mustang GT MT premium for a JK 2dr AT but not just any JK but the RECON. I'm extremely happy and a bit envious of him as he moves to NC

If I follow your lead(s) and get rid of my '05 Tundra I could get a JKU Recon and just pull a small trailer for my construction needs. But I like my smallish Tundra especially since Toyota super-sized it to be humongously large pig of a truck.

I say keep the truck and get a Jeep. Then you won't be so distraught when you break it on the trails. You have a backup vehicle.

Congrats nabdo. WHite was my first choice when I was looking for my JK. It'll look great decked out with black mods.
